These are the only 4 characters left alive who genuinely want to be Denji's friends

Main Post:

there's maybe also Reze but we haven't seen her for 153 chapters

Nayuta could also be there if she's still alive

Yoru is influenced by Asa and even though she manipulates Denji, she has at least grown somewhat attached to him

Fumiko isn't bait, her character is really misunderstood I think. Reread the entire church arc focusing on what Fumiko says and does. Ultimately, she has a lot in common with Miri; she genuinely wants to help Denji, but at the same time, it's more important to save the world. Her development in the Aging arc also goes in this direction. And overall, there are a billion parallels between Fumiko and Miri.

Top Comment: Reze is not here not because she is dead but because she wants to be Denjis girlfriend 😼

Did anyone else play this beautiful disaster, Left Alive? I think it must have been a big inspiration for Forever Winter.

Top Comment: Left Alive is a very frustrating, strange game, but Forever Winter caused a flood of memories for me. It's a stealth anti-shooter that's like a survival horror game, minus the horror. Almost every level is set in an active warzone with mechs and tanks, shooting a gun is almost always an instant death sentence, lots of scavenging, etc. It also had art from Yoji Shinkawa, who seems to be a big inspiration for FW. I haven't thought about this game in ~5 years, but I always thought it was something of a flawed gem. Dollars to donuts, someone at Good Dog must've felt the same way.

Is Left Alive Worth Playing Now Post Patches?

Main Post:

Big fan of the armored core series, Metal gear series, front mission series. So being a fan of all those you would think that left alive would be perfect for me since it's made by a producer from the armored core series, game plays in the style of Metal gear and takes place in the front mission universe.

Of course I heard how horribly bad the game is around the time it launched and so never touched it. It's been a number of years. However, since then and patches are done so I figured I would come back and ask if there's anyone who has played it recently and can tell me if it is worth playing today.

Is the story there? Is the gameplay fixed to be sufficiently fun? Is this game worth playing today?

I'm sure that it is not the best game ever. After all. You can only polish a turd so much but has it evolved into something beyond it s original form?

Thanks

Top Comment: Would be interested to know for the same reasons. Its sat on my shelf still sealed so would be good to know if its worth it...

Left Alive Users Reviews on Metacritic

Main Post:

Did I miss something? I played it a few years ago and found it really bad. Why this positive review bombing?

Top Comment: The game initial release was... needs improvement. They listened and released an update afterwards that greatly improved the game. My personal review of the game, the first time, bit difficult, but doable, replay value average. Story average. After the improvement update, they made it a bit easier and added a lot of replay value. Story still average, but overall it is a good game with unique mechanics. This could be why the scores are as such.

Left Alive: Front Mission Solid, anyone?

Main Post:

Is anyone brave enough to play Left Alive? I want a point of view from Front Mission fans. How is the experience? Is it as bad as they say, or is it actually worse?

Top Comment: It's a stealth game trying to replace MGS when Kojima left Konami. Despite having multiple MGS titles to clone a game off they somehow manage to fuck almost every mechanism up and make it one of the worst stealth game in recent years.

It's a shame left alive sucked because I really dig the idea of a stealth game where your hiding from mechs

Main Post:

Seeing the conflict of mech warfare as a regular person is such an underused concept

Trying to sneak past gaint machines where every tiny movement it makes blows out your ear drums with how painfully loud they are, like in universe your character has to use ear plugs just to drown out the noise of them moving

You can't fight them, at most you can fire a rocket at them in order to draw their attention

The begin of mgs 4 is probably the only stealth segment I've played where you actually feel like your sneaking past a war zone and, I feel like the idea of stealth game that's extremely loud and chaotic would be cool change apose to the usual quite and subdued ones

Top Comment: As one of a handful of people who has played Left Alive to completion and made sure to get the good ending, it's such an incredible bummer that the game turned out how it did. I don't exaggerate when I say that the game has pretty much everything going for it to be one of the best games of the last console generation EXCEPT the gameplay, the most important thing to get right arguably. The story is a really engaging sci-fi thriller in my opinion and the atmosphere for the game is top notch with the power armored soldiers and walking mecha are patrolling a war torn eastern European city, combined with Yoji Shinkawa's incredible character designs it makes a atmosphere that wouldn't feel out of place at all if the main Metal Gear timeline didn't basically stop at Revengeance and moved further into the future. The graphics while not even close to being on the level of something like The Last of Us Part 2 or The Order 1886 (not talking about the quality of those games, just the impressiveness of the graphical fidelity and environments) works well enough for what it needs to be. The music is pretty good as well from what I recall, and while 90% of the game is really bad stealth gameplay on foot, funny enough the mecha gameplay is remarkably better, not exactly what I would call "good" mind you but somehow the mecha feel way better to control.

Left alive 4 years later, not so alive

Main Post:

In 2018 a new game has been announced, a stealth game in which you have to survive in a warzone with gigant mechas and the art is drawn by the same guy who made the arts for the first MGS, sign me in.

And then next year the game was released, what a mess, everybody was shitting on this game, on how unpolished the graphic was, how the stealth system was unfun and the AI of the enemies was broken and so because I didn't want to spend money on a bad game I waited until the first lockdown to buy the game for only £10, I was still curious and the game couldn't be so bad, was it?

The problems that I usually read about the game are:

  • no insta stealth kill
  • enemis are bullets sponges
  • the equipment is useless
  • the enemies spots you too easily

And today I am here to defend this mess of a game, they tried to make a "realistic" stealth game in withch you have to survive the war around you and not being a one army man or a stealth operative who can sneak unseen in the shadows.

You can kill enemies from behind with melee tools but this action takes 3 interactions with the enemy, it is slow and generate a lot of noise, this must be used only when there is a single out enemy, not the best stealth solution but shows the struggle of killing another persone with unconventional tools, not so easy as cutting someone throats with a knife.

The enemy are bullets sponges because they wear futuristics armors and they don't want you to just shoot your way out and in the few scenarios in witch fighting is obligatory they give you enough ammos to win or at least I have never had problems.

The games give you unconventional stealth tools like handmade tools such as bombs, molotvs, flares and gas bombs. How can explosions and fire be stealth tools? Throw them at a group of enemies you want to sneak by and while they are taking cover because of the explosion or they are running around because of being on fire you can go by your way unotice. This is more of a "guerrilla" stealth game in witch the cashos you can generate around your enemies is a better strategy instead of being a silent ghost, it is an active warzone not a secret complex in Alaska.

So was the game good? Yes and no

The problems was that they tried to make a unconventional stealth game but failed to deliver their mechanics to the palyers who tryed to play it as a conventional one..... And it was also full of bugs and really unpolished.

Or maybe they just made an hot mess and I was trying to enjoy the game by breaking it by spamming granades and molotvs all over the place.

What do you think about this game?

Top Comment: Judging by videos, it was a nice idea with a bad execution. Like, it's fine on it's when enemies are bullet sponges to discourage combat, but then the game shouldn't throw you into forced combat sections. It also had seemingly useless features, like the dialogue options that didn't seem to change anything and the story also seemed to be a hot mess.

Left Alive is a tremendously disappointing return to the Front Mission universe.

Eurogamer - Martin Robinson - No Recommendation / Blank

This unlikely Front Mission spin-off's occasional charm can't make up for its seriously broken fundamentals.

Gameblog - Julien Inverno - French - 2 / 10

In a few days, once the papers are about to finish it, Left Alive will return to anonymity from the beginning, carrying with it the secret of its existence. Thanks to him, we remembered the charisma of PlayStation's Front Mission years ago and how incredible Metal Gear is on so many aspects. An incomprehensible and catastrophic attempt to survive and infiltrate, bad on all fronts, Left Alive deserves now to rest in peace.

Hobby Consolas - Alberto Lloret - Spanish - 68 / 100

Left Alive it's a tough game, hard and even unfair (because of the enemy's IA), with a non very responsible control, a questionable checkpoint system and other shortcomings, even from the technical side. Mechas, stealth, action... neither of its elements shine completely. But, even with that, it has "something" that can hook you up to keep playing.

IGN Spain - David Soriano - Spanish - 5 / 10

Unfortunately, Left Alive ends up being the heir of a period of Japanese development that we thought was extinct. Neither in stealth nor in shootings convinces.

Metro GameCentral - 3 / 10

A game bursting with interesting ideas but dragged down by a lack of technical competence and some very outdated ideas about game design and controls.

PC Invasion - Jason Rodriguez - 2 / 5 stars

Square Enix's Left Alive takes us back to the Front Mission universe. Unfortunately, numerous issues hold it back that it might as well be left for dead.

Push Square - Liam Croft - 2 / 10

Left Alive categorically fails at everything it sets out to accomplish. Wonky and unreliable AI makes engaging in stealth a frustrating chore, poor gunplay leads to numerous misplaced shots whizzing past the bullet-sponge enemies, and an unfair difficulty means you'll need to repeat those enraging moments over and over again. This game could have filled a gaping hole in the market, but instead it needs to be taken round back and put out of its misery. This is a truly miserable experience for even the most die-hard supporters of the genre.

Saudi Gamer - Arabic - 2 / 10

The essence and the general idea of this game is good, but it was executed in the worst way you can ever imagine. The only explanation to how bad this game is because the developer wanted to create a game with a big scope but with a very limited budget! At its current state I wouldn't recommend this game to anybody. The only prize this game would viscously compete for is the prize of "The worst game of this generation"!

TechRaptor - Dan Hodges - 3 / 10

Left Alive is a shoddily assembled mess with no real redeeming features. Its broken AI and glaring technical issues only serve to highlight the poor game design on display.

Top Comment: It's a shame because the art in this game is simply beautiful to look at. Square Enix is already competing for the worst game of the year from a major publisher for the second year in a row lol.
